Today’s post is the twenty-fifth one in the #write28days challenge, in which I’m participating during the month of February 2021. Today’s prompt is “Patience,” and here is my prayer/poem.
Have Patience With Me, Lord
Have patience with me
Lord
as I grow
ever so slowly
to be more like you.
My nature
is to complain
about you tying
me to trellises
pruning my branches
pinching off shoots.
Sometimes in my hurts
I turn away from you
pouting
like a child
doubting
the movement
of your skilled hands.
But I want to put
those childish ways
firmly behind me
and submit
to your training
toward maturity
even when I must endure
pain
to learn.
Have patience with me
Lord
as I learn to bear fruit
in every season
not only the sunny summer days
but days with overcast clouds
swirling winds
and driving rain.
Remind me to cling to you
as my refuge
trusting you hold
me secure.
Have patience with me
O Lord
as I push out wild tendrils
rather than resting
in the way you grafted
me into the stronger
healthier
more fruitful stock.
May I fix my eyes
on the beautiful harvest
you’ll bear through me
if I am patient
with your process.
