May 2026 Christian Book Picks

I chose these books as my top picks because they had the most meaningful impact on my mind and heart. I hope my shares about them inspire you to read them yourself.

Prayer in Motion

This is a beautifully illustrated book with many creative ideas for engaging your body and senses in prayer. It has example prayers you can walk through on your own, along with explanations of how prayers like these can calm your brain and body. I am eager to try some of these out, and they would be fun to teach to children as well.

Overflowing Peace

I really appreciated the deep dive into Psalm 23 in this book. It makes the familiar psalm much richer in meaning now, and I learned many interesting facts about sheep. I also appreciated the author’s stories and the quotes and facts she included in the book. This is the first book I have read from this author, and I will definitely be checking out her other works now.

Fearfully and Wonderfully Broken

This is a profoundly well-written book by a writer wise beyond her years. She struggles with a disability and writes eloquently about how it has impacted her faith, work, and relationships. Though I don’t have physical struggles like hers, I gained great affirmation and encouragement from her words in my severe emotional and relationship struggles. It will easily make the best of the best list of the hundreds of books I will read in 2026 for its writing quality and wisdom.

Don’t Stop Praying

If you are among the many who want to learn more about prayer, this book is for you. It’s an easy-to-read devotional that will take just a few minutes per day to read. This book is based on many examples of prayer in the Bible, including the Lord’s Prayer. Stories from Matthew’s life will encourage you as well. It has the same uplifting, positive tone that I’ve seen in his Christmas book. Fans of Matthew West will enjoy this book, as well as anyone else who wants to grow their prayer life.

Habits of Resistance

This is a convicting book about the habits of our culture that are secretly destructive to our spiritual lives. It is thoughtful and helpful for self-examination.

At Your Best

This book is helping me manage my time more efficiently. I’m operating in my green zone better than I have before, and I’m even leveraging my red zone to my advantage. You’ll have to read the book to understand what I mean – yet it’s a quick, easy read with lots of practical application.

This is an enjoyable summertime read. I liked the setting because it felt like a virtual vacation. I enjoyed the characters too and the slow burn development. It was a good read, and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

The Island Bakeshop

I enjoyed the first book in this series so much that I knew I would love this one, and that’s exactly what happened. It has good character development, a beautiful setting, and an engaging storyline that keeps you turning the pages. It’s a good summer read and would be a nice read for any other time of the year.

Americans Who Pray

This is an excellent book to guide your prayers for America, especially in its 250th year. There are a variety of authors who contribute to this book, including famous Americans. Yet the tone is seamless in its fervency for the United States to return to its faith-based roots and values. I read the digital version and enjoyed it so much that I will be ordering the hard copy so I can reference it often as a reminder to pray for my beloved country.

America, I’m So Glad You Were Born!

This is a wonderful, positive book for children that’s perfect for every year, yet especially right for America’s 250th anniversary.
The illustrations are colorful and engaging as they tell the story of children creating decorations for a patriotic float. They will involve your child in the story, and your child will love following the storyline throughout the book.
I like the gold touches in the fireworks on the book cover too, which add to the festive feel.

The Seeds of America Trilogy

I enjoy reading YA books sometimes for their clean themes and easy-to-follow storylines. This series is based on the Revolutionary War, telling the tales of Isabel, a slave, and Curzon, both a slave and soldier. Their stories are compelling and rich with emotional and sensory details. You will be ever more thankful for the sacrifices early Americans made when you read these powerful books.
These stories share engaging historical details amid a backdrop of grit, hope, determination, and freedom-fighting.  Some of the material is graphic, yet it is true to the experience and never unnecessarily grotesque. I enjoyed snippets of real letters at the beginning of the chapters from famous Americans as well as ordinary folk who fought to make our country great.
I consider this a bonus pick, because these books aren’t explicitly Christian, but they certainly contain Christian themes because our country was primarily Christian from the earliest days of its existence. All three books are inspiring and humbling, if you choose to put yourself in the shoes of the characters.
