February 2026 Christian Book Picks

I chose these books as my top picks because they had the most meaningful impact on my mind and heart. I hope my shares about them inspire you to read them yourself.

The Story of Harriet Tubman

In fifth or sixth grade I read a biography about Harriet Tubman, and it changed my life. She has inspired me to be a crusader of the faith. This new book for middle-schoolers is ideal for teaching them about the extreme challenges she faced as well as her Christian faith that compelled her to never give up. This book has many historical facts to help readers learn about American history. It paints a realistic picture of the evils of the slave trading era and how Harriet was one of the pioneers in the fight against it. Because modern-day slavery is still an issue, this is an important book to teach children how to fight it themselves based on Harriet’s brave example. She had a life full of difficulties, yet always persevered because she believed in a cause greater than herself. I highly recommend it for homeschool families and for school libraries.

This is a good book to encourage you when you are in a waiting season.
Ruth is honest about times that don’t feel good, or when you are questioning why God has you in the season you are in.
Her personal stories, biblical examples, and illustrations are helpful to keep you hanging onto faith when you are in the messy middle.
I found this book personally encouraging to me in a season I’d rather not endure.

Getting Through What You’re Going Through

This is a funny, uplifting, creative book to give you a boost on days that feel hard, boring, or endless. It’s a short, easy read that you can turn to when you need a lift. As a poetry fan, this book appealed to me. It made me smile and I only wish it would have been longer.

Marrying the Matchmaker

This is another wonderful book in a delightful series, set in 19th century St. Louis. Zaira and Bellamy are a great couple, and they both develop well as the story unfolds. I laughed out loud with their first major interaction, which shaped the rest of the book. As a Missourian I love the historical details. It’s such a well-written series that has kept me engaged page after page. I was sorry that the book ended, and I truly look forward to any spin-off books that might come in the future.

This is a great guide for different types of personal spiritual retreats. I recommend getting a hard copy so you can refer to it and take notes on various retreats, whether 24-hours long or longer. The author gives many prompts for deeper reflection and offers prayers and structure for your retreats. It is a wise book that will help you have practical guidance as you grow in faith.

The Four Keys to Mental Health

This is a helpful book for someone acknowledging he or she has depression, perhaps for the first time. It will be especially helpful for pastors who have a hard time admitting they are depressed.
The author lays out four dimensions of mental health based on Scripture, and offers practical help for each one.
It’s a good introductory book to the topics of depression and anxiety, and it could serve as a lifeline for someone needing practical help on a daily basis.

Chasing Emptiness, Finding Fullness

This is a refreshing, honest look at the fruits of the spirit. In her signature, no-nonsense style, Gladys writes with the heart of a teacher and also of a caring friend. She isn’t afraid to tell you the truth and also shares how she’s applied it to her own life. It’s another good book in her collection, and I always love gaining bits of gold from her wisdom.

Restory Your Life

Mary DeMuth is one of my favorite authors because she always writes with authenticity, wisdom, and deep insight. This book is no different in that aspect. Yet it takes a unique approach by inviting you to examine your life in a story arc. In each chapter, she creatively uses Bible stories to illustrate how God re-storied his people and redeemed their suffering. Because Mary is so familiar with trauma, she writes how this approach applies to her own life and how it helped her heal. I was especially touched by her chapter on Joseph’s life, because his story is so similar to my own. I highlighted many passages and found this to be a very helpful book in my own healing from trauma, even after years of therapy.

Fully Nourished

This is an easy read with practical and biblical tips for getting healthier without obsessing over food. I liked the author’s gentle approach in several different areas, which I can apply right away. The way she labeled foods is easy to remember and has no pressure on it. It’s a great companion book for your overall health plan that needs to include exercise, rest, hydration, and consultations with your doctor. I love that this came from a Christian perspective and felt like a girlfriend talking to me with no shame – just validation and encouragement.

Gradually Then Suddenly

I’m currently reading this book, which is encouraging me to take the long view. It’s packed full of stories of people who were consistent in little things, then “suddenly” gained success from their habits. It’s a great look at Bible stories as well as stories from many different people. Encouraging and inspiring.

God Won’t Leave You There

Because Joseph is my favorite person in the Bible, I am drawn to this book. Both authors have had significant suffering in their lives that felt discouraging. Yet through the story of Joseph, they have gained encouragement that they are sharing to bolster their own faith and the faith of readers.

The Belle of Chatham

In this 250th year of the United States history, I’m reading many books about the colonial era. This historical novel is set during the Revolutionary War, and the details are fascinating and engaging. The love story is just one rewarding part of this clean, well-written novel.

I’ve been a morning person since childhood, yet I still gained helpful insights from this book. I enjoy Jennifer’s writing style, which is like sitting down with one of your smartest girlfriends who shares great tips and cares deeply for you. If you don’t consider yourself a morning person, you’ll love the practical takeaways in this book that teach you how mornings can be more peaceful and productive, what the Bible has to say about this, and tips for different life stages.
