Today I’m reflecting on how we are designed to reflect God’s glory. I hope this prayer/poem encourages you to reflect on your design for God’s glory too.
This piece is based on the Five Minute Friday prompt for the week: Design. I love this chapter in Exodus which affirms our gifts as Christian creatives. It’s unedited, and I wrote it in five minutes flat.
Designed to Reflect God’s Glory
The Lord has given them special skills as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple, and scarlet thread on fine linen cloth, and weavers. They excel as craftsmen and as designers.
Exodus 35:35 NLT
Father God,
What a gift it is
to reflect your glory
in the designs we produce:
platters laid out for parties
patterns painted on paper
stitches woven through fabric
bridges constructed over rivers.
Everywhere we see your glorious design
in nature, undeniable glory.
You created us to create
as we are made in your image:
designer.
May my designs please you
and help others take delight in you:
flowers I draw
dinners I dish up
decor I arrange
ambiance I create.
May my home be a cathedral
of its own kind, created to invite others in
to experience the beauty of you
not only in its design
but in the creation of conversation
warmth of friendship
winsomeness of love.
May the works of my hands
expressions of my face
and words of my mouth
reflect your glory,
shining your light into others’ hearts
to woo them to you,
O Creator of All Things.
