The Best Christian Meditation Verses on Shame

When we need to overcome shame, we can use Christian meditation to find freedom. God does not shame us, no matter what we have done wrong. His love and grace covers our failures, and we can find freedom from shame through him alone.

Freedom from Shame

Shame has been a part of my life story. I’ve experienced shame due to cutting words. Less-than-favorable life experiences also stirred up shame in me. Some of my poor choices also led to shame. Yet God has given me freedom from shame through the power of his Word.

If I allow memories of shame to hold too much power, I begin to feel small and powerless. Our enemy Satan wants nothing more than to hold us down with shame. That’s why we need the truth of God’s Word to replace those shameful memories when they rise up.

By meditating on key scriptures, we can fight shameful thoughts and find freedom. Every time I have a thought linked to shame, I remember a scripture that has set me free. This practice helps transform my thought life through Christian meditation (which is the topic of my upcoming book, to be released in October 2019).

These scriptures have helped me find freedom from shame:

I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. Psalm 25:2 NIV

No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause. Psalm 25:3 NIV

Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. Psalm 34:5 NLT

In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. Psalm 71:1 NIV

Help me abandon my shameful ways; for your regulations are good. Psalm 119:39 NLT

May I wholeheartedly follow your decrees, that I may not be put to shame. Psalm 119:80 NIV

“Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. Don’t be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you. You will no longer remember the shame of your youth and the sorrows of widowhood.” Isaiah 54:4 NLT

Instead of shame and dishonor, you will enjoy a double share of honor. You will possess a double portion of prosperity in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours. Isaiah 61:7 NLT

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:5 NIV

As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” Romans 10:11 NIV

For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” 1 Peter 2:6 NIV

And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame. 1 John 2:28 NLT

Meditation on These Verses

I’ve created a free printable of these verses to help you choose freedom from shame through Christian meditation. Post this printable in a highly visible spot, and replace your shame-filled thoughts with one of these scriptures. Slowly read the verses several times while you apply them to your thoughts and beliefs. As a result, you will gain greater peace through this process and God will give you the freedom you seek.
