How to Celebrate a New Season of Life

Are you struggling to celebrate a new season of life? I have been in a transition period of parenting, and it’s been my struggle for a while. I have Christian encouragement to share with you today.

I’m honored to be a new member of the writing team at Encouragement for Today! My first devotion published today, and if you are joining me from there, welcome!

Celebrating a New Season of Life

If you read my devotion at Encouragement for Today, you know that a popup picture on social media caused me to mourn instead of celebrating a new season of life. Here is that adorable photo:

Here is what my children look like in this current life season (along with our sweet lab puppy):

Both seasons of parenting have been precious to me. My children are my greatest joy, and slowly letting go of them has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I know it’s necessary and good. Yet since those past seasons were so wonderful, I have been challenged to stop embracing them so hard and embrace the new ones.

I must deliberately count the joys in this current life season to get in celebration mode. Some more joys in this current season:

  • Adult-level conversations rich with their unique perspectives
  • Enjoying the Avengers movies with my middle son, and talking over all the details
  • Driving lessons with my oldest son (!)
  • Handing over household responsibilities to them, like mowing the lawn, hand-washing dishes, and even pricing clothes for a yard sale
  • Getting to know their friends who visit our home more often
  • Not having to clean up their messes (hooray!)

By thanking God every day for the blessings in my current season, I feel more like celebrating and less like mourning. Yes, those past times will always be a joy to me. But the current times in my life are good, and there are more to come in future seasons.

I’m learning to lean into hope instead of clinging to fear. I’m also learning to surrender each season over to the Lord and ask him to show me the beauty in every one. He is being faithful to me through every season, and that’s worth celebrating!

So, how can you celebrate a new season of life?

  • Thank God every day for your current season.
  • Count the joys one by one.
  • Surrender your season over to God.
  • Ask God to show you the beauties you may be overlooking.
  • Celebrate by praising him, and maybe even treat yourself to something small.
