I Will Savor This Day With You
Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
Psalm 34:8 NLT
Father God,
I will savor this day with you
the same way
I let the bergamot oil
from my Earl Grey tea
linger on my tongue
enjoying its exotic brightness
within a cup of warmth
each morning
like the warmth
I experience
when I settle in
only with you.
I choose to savor this day
like the ounce of dark chocolate
melting slow in my mouth
earthy
rich
fruity
complex
enriching me
with iron to build
new red blood cells
and stimulation
for my serotonin uptake.
In the same way
you help me grow
and lift me up
from within.
I will savor this very day
this moment
this hour
you created for me
like the banana
picked in the tropics
while green and hard
but perfectly ripe
today
for me to delight
in its starchy sweetness.
Right now
you ask me
to step in this moment with you
savoring it
turning it around and around
on my palate
like the wine at the Cana wedding
celebratory
joyful
and exuberant
because you came
not only to save us
but to celebrate with us
the small joys
encapsulated in every moment
you create.
