I wrote my book Christmas Peace for Busy Moms in 2016 because I know that many of us are desperate for peace during the holiday season. Sacred Holidays provides many practical ways to find that peace that only Jesus can provide. It’s not only for Thanksgiving or Christmas; it’s for every holiday of the year, which makes this book refreshing and unique.
Ideas for Joyful Holidays
The author leads you through a thoughtful journey of what hasn’t worked in your past holidays, what HAS worked, and what you can do to move forward in peace. She offers creative ideas for making each season more joyful and intentional. I’ll pull out a few:
- Advent: Read verses while you light candles (ideas included)
- Christmas: Pick a memory ornament or have a family fundraiser for a cause
- New Year: Choose a word for the year and pray over your Christmas cards.
- Lent: Make a Jesus tree or light Lent candles.
- Summer: Too many great ideas to choose from!
- Halloween: Pray over your street or host a pumpkin carving/painting party.
These ideas will help you foster family closeness and a giving spirit toward others. She also includes budgeting tips, adjusting expectations, handling conflict, and even dealing with grief during holidays. All the holiday bases are covered.

Redeemed
I’ve followed Michelle Rabon for years on her blog, and I was thrilled to meet her at She Speaks 2018. When she sought friends to help her launch her Advent Bible study, I jumped at the chance.
Redeemed is a beautiful book. It features full color pictures on the inside, and invites you to study one woman of the Bible from December 1 through December 25. The book is generously sized and includes spaces for you to write answers and jot notes–no need for a separate notebook.
Each day’s lesson is brief yet powerful. You’ll use your Bible to find your answers to the questions and learn more about the women in the Bible. Even though I’m familiar with the Bible, I learned new things in this study that’s just deep enough and short enough for busy women who want to study the Bible.
One of the days challenges you to ask how Jesus has touched your life. Your faith will grow through Michelle’s Advent study, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the format.

My friend Jodie Barrett recently experienced the tragic loss of her son. If she can find joy in this season, we all can. Jodie gently shows us how in her gorgeous book, Jingle and Joy.
