Holding You in Awe and Wonder

Holding You in Awe and Wonder is a powerful prayer for spiritual growth. I’m praying this today, and you can pray this Scripture-based prayer with me.

Today’s post is the sixth one in the #write28days challenge, in which I’m participating during the month of February 2021. The prompt for today is “Awe,” and here is my prayer/poem.

Holding You in Awe and Wonder

Father God,

As I watch the sun rise

in the east

above the bare winter branches

I wonder

why do you take notice of me?

My whole world awakens

at your touch:

cardinals twittering

cows lowing

roosters crowing

squirrels scampering

dogs barking

geese flying

leaves rustling.

You satisfy the needs

of every living thing

seen and unseen

and yet

deem me your masterpiece.

So many animals hibernating

insects burrowing

seeds slumbering

buds waiting

and you sustain them all

in this winter.

You sustain me

even more.

I hold you in awe and wonder.

This morning you give me

bacon and butter and milk

from nearby farms

French toast with nutmeg and vanilla

from exotic lands

Earl Grey tea with bergamot

from a sunny hill

in Calabria, Italy

while I steward a small patch

of your woods in Missouri.

You give me flannel pajamas

central heat and electricity

fresh flowers in a vase

diamonds on my fingers and ears

and high speed internet access.

Oh, how blessed I am.

What honor

you bestow on me

a conglomeration

of dust and water.

But since you breathe life into me

I am chosen and set apart

made in your image.

Holy, holy, holy

is the Lord God Almighty –

the earth is filled

with your glory!

I am a mirror

to reflect your glory

to this world.

O Lord Most High

I worship you this ordinary Saturday

holding you in awe and wonder

while I praise you with fingertips

typing on a keyboard

eyes lifting to bare branches

against a white sky

knowing you are right here with me

while you sustain every atom

in this universe.

Holy, holy, holy

are you

O Lord

of awe and wonder!
