I Am Awestruck

I Am Awestruck is a prayer of praise. I hope this prayer-poem inspires you today.

Today’s post is the thirteenth one in the #write28days challenge, in which I’m participating during the month of February 2021. Today’s prompt is “Awestruck,” and here is my prayer/poem.

I Am Awestruck

I am awestruck by your power

displayed in the solar eclipse

a hushed holy pause

in the summer heat

a moment of midday dusk

when the sun became a black hole

so mysterious and overwhelming

I had to turn away in fear

but not terror —

nay, the holy fear

we call awe.

Only you

can perform

such an act of greatness

with no effort

and it made me wonder

how many millions more

grand acts

you set in motion

each day in your cosmos

without my knowledge.

Oh, such knowledge

is too great for me.

I am awestruck

by your grace, so freely given

to the worst human offenders

I will not name

because my own name

is on the list —

the pass/fail list

not a list of merits.

Your grace flicked

like drops of blood

from a hyssop branch

over me, humbled

and seated in the holy place

which you opened for me

with your own death.

I boldly approach

your throne of grace

trembling with awe

as I kneel.

I repent in dust and ashes.

I am awestruck

by your plans for me

hope that pulls

me forward, green hope

that sprouts even

in the darkness

though I am but dust

shaped and moved

by your breath.

The future you promise

of heaven paved in gold

white robes with no stains

leaves from the tree of life for healing

fellowship with all believers

no pain, sorrow, crying anymore

and seeing you

O Most High

face

to

face.

Now I cover my mouth

with my hand.

I have said too much already.

I have nothing more to say

and I will sit here

with you

simply awestruck.
