I Am Broken For You
Father God,
I am broken for you
like the vessel
cracked open
by Mary’s hands
holding the sweet
perfume to anoint
you with honor.
My life has been broken
in so many ways
as you know
so much better
than I do.
Cracks and fissures
you ordained
to make me stronger
than if I had remained
untouched.
Broken and poured out
before you
on display
yet not exposed
for your criticism
and condemnation
but offered
as a living sacrifice.
What a miracle
you proclaim me
your masterpiece
even with my scars.
Today in my struggles
remind me while
I climb up on the altar
to subject myself
again
to the refining fires
that you bring beauty
from ashes
and are with me
even in the fire
and that you
made yourself
broken for me.
