What Wildflowers Teach Us About Faith

Did you know that wildflowers teach us about faith in God in simple, beautiful ways? Here’s a story about how what they taught me this spring.

What Wildflowers Teach Us

Our puppy is learning how to walk on a leash. He prefers to sniff everything around him, so he likes walking on the grass better than pavement. I took him on a grassy detour near the creek in my city park. The yet-to-be-mowed grass is beautifully covered with wildflowers, as you can see:

These little flowers happily danced in the breeze. As their tiny faces turned up toward the sun, I remembered this verse:

And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
Luke 12:28 NLT

Lessons on Faith from Wildflowers

None of us is talented enough to create a flower. Only God can create such intricate beauty. Yet these flowers only last a few days at most. As springtime wakes up my part of the world, trillions of flowers are blooming only for a short time.

Is God’s handiwork wasted? Not at all! His brilliant glory is reflected in each wildflower. But we are even more precious to him than these wildflowers. As his image bearers, we reflect his glory even more.

It’s easy to get caught up in the pressures of life and forget how precious we are to God. By studying the small beauties of life, we can see ourselves as God sees us: precious beyond price. He is caring for your every need because you are dear to him, friend.

Meditating on God’s Truth

I encourage you to meditate on Luke 12:28 today. Think about a flower you have recently spotted. What does it tell you about God’s glory? How does it point to your value in his eyes? Pray that God will refresh your outlook the next time you see a flower.

Here’s a prayer to encourage you today:

Heavenly Father,
You are beautiful! Thank you for filling the world with beautiful things like wildflowers.
I confess that I often don’t see myself the way you see me.
Instead, the pressures of life tempt me to lose sight of the truth.
Thank you for the lessons you teach me in something as small and short-lived as a wildflower.
Give me new vision to see your deep value of me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
