If You Feel Less Than Loved

If you are feeling less than loved today, you aren’t alone. I’ve been there with you, friend! And I have encouragement here for you in God’s Word.

If you have landed here from my Encouragement for Today devotion, welcome! There, I tell a story from my past about not feeling love the way I wanted, but finding ultimate fulfillment in God’s love. On this post, I want to offer an encouraging story from Scripture, along with meditation verses to lift you up.

God is our refuge in lonely times.

The Less Than Loved Bible Story

Did you know there is a person in the Bible who felt less than loved too? It’s Leah, sister to Rachel and wife of Jacob. Her father Laban tricked Jacob into marrying Leah, though he knew full well that Jacob loved Rachel and wanted her as his wife. When Jacob discovered the trick, he was furious and demanded that Rachel be his wife. His wish was granted at great cost to him, but perhaps even greater emotional cost to Leah, who felt unloved.

Though Leah may have never felt adequately loved by her husband, sister, or father, God loved Leah very much. In fact, he chose Leah to be the mother of Judah, the son of Jacob from whom the Messiah would be born. As believers in Jesus, we have all benefited from Leah’s perseverance, despite feeling unloved.

There is no way Leah could have foreseen the immense blessing God would work through her life. No way she would imagine we would be benefiting from her story even now, thousands of years later! There is encouragement for you in this story, friend.

Though you may feel less than loved right now, you really have no idea what plans God is working in your life as you surrender to him in obedience. Your quiet devotion to the Lord, your faithfulness to his teachings, and your worship of him all matter. As you lean on Jesus as your primary source of love, your hurting and lonely heart can heal.
