Practical Advent is a daily blog series I’m doing throughout Advent this year. Join me on my blog each day for practical faith tips.
Practical Advent, Day 19
Since childhood, I’ve observed Advent each year. It’s been a wonderful way to build my faith and increase my anticipation of Christmas for all the right reasons. I highly encourage you to observe Advent as well, because it can help you be more intentional in this busy season.
In this Practical Advent blog series, I’ll have the same post format to give you about 10-15 minutes of practical tips for loving God, loving others, and loving yourself during the Advent season.
Praise
Each day of Practical Advent, I’ll share one of my favorite songs to listen to during Advent. Take a moment to praise God while you listen.
Here’s one that’s blessed me in this season – Christmas Time by Phil Wickham.
Ponder
Every day of Practical Advent, I’ll share a quote or idea from an Advent book in my collection for you to ponder, along with my thoughts and a few reflection questions.
Today’s quote is from Unwrapping Christmas by Jackie Freeman.
Here’s the quote I’ve chosen to share today:
“We cannot focus on the frivolities of the holiday season and forget the frightening scenes beyond our doors. In many far-flung nations, people of all religions are dying for their faith and for their determination to acquire the pace, good will, and freedom that God alone can provide. The Prophet Isaiah records the Lord promising, ‘Peace, peace, to those far and near. And I will heal them’ (Isaiah 47:19, NIV). Far too often, mankind makes war. But God knows that our world desperately needs and craves the healing peace that Christ alone promises.”
If you’re looking for ways to learn more about the persecuted church worldwide to pray for them and financially support them, here is what I recommend:
Pray for the Persecuted Church

I’ve partnered with Voices of the Martyrs to help you access these two favorite resources of mine for a donation of any amount. For years, they have helped me pray more intentionally for the persecuted church. Get the Bible HERE and the Global Prayer Guide HERE.
Reflection questions:
- Which world nation holds a natural interest for you, and why?
- How might you be more intentional in praying for fellow Christians in that nation, especially in this Advent season?
Prayer
Today I’m sharing a prayer I wrote for Proverbs 31 Ministries in 2019.
