January 2026 Christian Book Picks
I chose these books as my top picks because they had the most meaningful impact on my mind and heart. I hope my shares about them inspire you to read them yourself.
Experience Jesus, Really
This is a fabulous book about becoming a more intentional follower of Jesus in our fast-paced, Internet-fueled culture. It digs into Psalm 91 and talks about the need for us to lean into the mystical side of faith to get the spiritual nourishment we need.
His powerful prayers and extensive explanations of healing have moved me deeply. I personally appreciated the depth of description into healing by inviting Jesus into our childhood wounds. It’s no exaggeration to say this is a life-changing book, if you are courageous enough to apply its teachings.
It is rich with quotes from many other authors, as well as touching stories from the author’s life. He is one of my favorite authors of all time, and this is another book in the incredible lineup. I read the Kindle version, and I will purchase a physical copy because I want to reference it often.
It’s my favorite book I read this month. Get your own copy HERE.
You’re Not Too Late
I liked this book because the author is so relatable in her stories. Her warm honesty draws you in. She makes great points about the cycles of longing and how they can either break us or make our faith stronger. This book encouraged me in a long waiting season, and I am grateful I read it during this period.

Overwhelmed & Grateful
I liked the grounded positivity in this book. The author does not sugarcoat the hard things in life and shares stories from her life that prove she understands how difficult life can be. Yet through providing research and her own insights into combining gratitude with difficulty, she shows the reader how this is possible and doable even when life is overwhelming with grief or disappointment.

Breaking the Patterns That Break You
The author has faced many traumas and hardships, including several types of abuse, poverty, foster care, juvenile detention, and shaming. She writes honestly about her trials with a big heart for helping others. As a lifelong victim of abuse, her story resonated deeply with me. Though she has been shamed for her childlike faith, I found it very refreshing and honest. I appreciated her vulnerability and I know her words will help many.

Anxiety: A Bible Study on Finding Peace in God’s Presence
This is a meaty, yet convenient Bible study ideal for groups or individuals. It has plenty of space for writing so you retain what you learn. At the beginning, you can read the plan that has worked for millions of people who have done these studies. I like the thoughtful questions, good quotes from other authors, and neuroscience facts that add value for practical application. My only complaint is that the type is sort of small, but that did not detract from my experience.

Hopeful Sorrow: Turning to God in Hope When Childhood Wounds Have You Turning Away
This is an excellent book about the gift of lament when we are going through seasons of grief, confusion, and doubt. It’s written in a compassionate, tender tone. The author has had several seasons of lament in her life and wisely weaves her personal stories with biblical truths. I like how she uses several chapters toward the end of the book to describe seasons where we will need to lament. These chapters have practical value for many. It’s a good book to give not just when someone’s loved one has died, but in any season where someone is trying to make sense of the hard things in life.

The Lie You Don’t Know You Believe: How to Find It, Fight It, and Live Free
As always, Jennie Allen delivers a powerful, honest, hard-hitting message in this new book. She exposes three lies that are common to us that most of us don’t realize are shaping our lives. Then she helps us uncover the why behind each one and work upward and outward from there with biblical steps. I enjoy her books because they have such practical takeaways and speak right to the heart of issues. This one was just as powerful as her other books. I know it will make a great impact on many like it has on me.

All In, All Yours: A 100-Day Devotional Journey to Find, Live, and Rest in God’s Best
I love the humor in this 100-day devotional about the Israelites’ journey in the wilderness before they entered the promised land. The author is only 37 years old, yet she is a cancer survivor. She is not afraid to talk about hard things, but she laces them with joy through her humorous stories and comments. It is a good look at this portion of the Bible and I was encouraged by it.
A few favorite quotes:
- “Remember, ‘The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.’ (Psalm 84:11). If we have it, it’s good for us. If we don’t, it’s either not good or the timing isn’t right. God will not deny anything that is good for His kids.”
- “The land is all yours, but is your attitude all in? Let’s follow Caleb’s footsteps as we face our own hill country, knowing God rewards obedience when the time was right.”
- “God knows what you can and cannot handle too, and in due time, He wants you to enlarge your territory. He wants you to seize the Promised Land. He wants you to dwell in the land overflowing with milk and honey. But how you respond in these smaller territories will affect how you respond in the face of much smaller ones.”

Sacred and Still: Embrace the Holy Rhythms of the Lenten Season
This is an encouraging Lenten devotional. It is good for women who are new to observing Lent as well as those experienced in observing it. The three authors all contribute different, yet complimentary viewpoints and stories. It has 47 readings to cover each day of the Lenten season.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes:
- “Every day, how we spend our minutes and hours adds silent tallies that can show us where our priorities lie. We ‘vote’ with our time.”
- “Loving others well almost always comes at the cost of comfort, convenience, and/or the joy of getting our preference.”
- “We’re tempted to believe that our small obediences are too insignificant and quiet to matter, especially when they cost us comfort, convenience, or preference.”
- “Every yes we give is a no to something else, and the unintended consequences can be far-reaching.”
- “‘The world is hard enough. I’d like to notice the good. I’m calling it extravagant complimenting,’ she said.”

Slow Theology
This is an excellent book I would give to every Christian if I could. It’s not just another book about slowing down and being intentional. It’s a book about how God’s slowness is part of his unchanging character that we desperately need to accept in our fast-paced culture. I highlighted dozens of quotes that are shaping my thinking in new ways. I read the Kindle version, and now I want the hard copy version too so I can get more out of it. I highly recommend it as a companion for listening to the podcast.

Bringing Heaven Here
I am listening to the audio version of Bringing Heaven Here, a rich and insightful book about The Lord’s Prayer. My attention was riveted when they talked about “give us this day our daily bread.” I learned how the Roman government controlled its citizens through food and entertainment while exploiting lower classes, such as the Jews. This seems like an eerie similarity to the U.S. government’s policies that lull our citizens into apathy and greed. However, there is redemption in the biblical model, which the book describes in depth. I made a short video about it on YouTube so you can hear what I heard and make your own conclusions.
