During the shorter, darker days of winter, the winter blues affect not just me, but my marriage. It’s bad enough when I struggle with winter blues, but since my husband also struggles with them, our marriage suffers a double whammy.
Over the years, I’ve learned ways to cope with the winter blues and even fight back with healthy methods.
Though Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, it’s not always easy to find comfort and joy if your heart is weighed down in sorrow, unless you ask God for help.
This year, I’m grieving a living death. The sorrow rises up from a deep spring, unbidden. It sometimes pours out in the very moment I’m rejoicing over God’s blessings. As I look at Christmas lights, enjoy hot tea and cookies, or listen to Christmas music, my sorrow suddenly threatens my peace.
