Palm Sunday devotional 3.20.16

Read:  Matthew 21:1-7

Stubborn, undignified, lowly.  These are my mental images of a donkey—what are yours?  It’s interesting that Jesus, the King of Kings, chose a donkey as his vehicle for his royal processional into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.  Not a majestic stallion or a golden chariot—an ordinary donkey used for farm chores.  Jesus fulfilled prophecy with his choice (Zechariah 9:9), and he also made a powerful statement.  He chose to display humility and meekness instead of power and might.  A lowly donkey helped Jesus silently state his mission to the crowd that shouted hosannas and waved palm branches.

Reflection:

What significance does Jesus’ choice of transportation on Palm Sunday have for you?
