Great Books for Moms

With Mother’s Day coming up soon, here are my top picks for new books for moms, or maybe a gift for yourself!

Beautiful encouragement and inspiration for women mentoring women in the church.

Adorned: Living Out the Beauty of the Gospel Together

In this book, discover how the book of Titus teaches women how to mentor and how to be mentored. Older generations have much to offer from their treasure troves of wisdom and experience. Younger women offer fresh perspectives and new energy.  Both generations of women sharpen and strengthen one another’s faith walks as they share honestly and seek each other’s company.  As a Gen X gal, I liked this book because I have learned so much from Christian women in the baby boomer generation, and I want to learn to mentor the millennial women who are following me.  This book is written with depth, richness, and solid biblical teaching, which what I expect from Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth. She gently but firmly encourages women to engage in community, take risks, and shed wrong perceptions so we can work together to build up the body of Christ. This book would be an ideal gift for a mom of any age.

Only Love Today: Reminders to Breathe More, Stress Less, and Choose Love

Here is a book you’ll want to savor slowly every day. It’s divided into the four seasons so you can begin where you like. I read through the Spring section yesterday and truly enjoyed the candid glimpses into Rachel Macy Stafford’s life.  I LOVE her lyrical writing style. It’s like free verse poetry spoken in an honest, fresh voice.  She gently convicted me again and again by pointing out how I rush through my day without enjoying the small things, how I give myself such a hard time, and how I need to dwell peacefully in God’s presence, free from worry. She offers practical tips like “XOXO Before The Go” and “The Six-Second Challenge,” easy reminders to build more loving moments into daily life.  This book offers powerful insights to make you pause, remember how much God loves you, and think of how to spread the love to others.  A unique devotional with such a positive vibe.

Unsinkable Faith: God-Filled Strategies to Transform the Way You Think, Feel, and Live

Do you struggle with a negative thought-life? In her warm, authentic voice, Tracie Miles offers encouragement for claiming a positive outlook, no matter how difficult your current circumstance may be. She writes about her own tough challenges with tact and humility. She also shares stories of many overcomers, using Bible stories and stories of friends from her own life. As one who has struggled with negativity most of my life, I enjoy this multifaceted look at ways to develop a positive, hopeful, God-pleasing outlook. Each chapter offers strategies and challenges to put into practice what you’ve just learned. I’m going to reread this book and dig more deeply into those questions. I want to write them down, ponder them deeply, and have a total shift in thinking. This book is the best tool I’ve found for changing a negative mindset.  How many moms do you know who could benefit from a tool like this?
