Your sense of smell is a powerful link to your memories. One whiff of a certain perfume transports you back into a loved one’s embrace, even if you haven’t seen them in years. Surely the disciples were transported back into the home of Simon the Leper when they caught the scent of nard years later. They remembered the woman who anointed Jesus with expensive perfume just a few days before the crucifixion. She sensed his coming death, though the disciples ignored all the clues. Jesus praised her actions while they rebuked her, saying, “She has done a beautiful thing to me.” Jesus said her act of love would be told wherever the gospel is preached, and her story is preserved for us today. Her act of love has enduring power, just like our acts of love have more power than we realize.
What special act of love can you demonstrate in Jesus’ name this week?
