basinDay 2, Week 1:  Service (Basin)

Today’s scripture passage:

Now that I , your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.  I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.  I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. John 13:14-17 NIV

Have you ever performed a task that you felt was beneath you?  In this passage, Jesus explained the meaning of washing the disciples’ feet, making sure they didn’t miss the significance of his actions.  In all his glory as the Son of God, he did not consider feet-washing to be beneath him.  He directed the disciples to serve one another even in the smallest ways.  He promised blessings to those who serve in this manner.

Today’s reflection:

What can you do today to serve others, even in small ways, at home, work, school, or elsewhere?  How might you be blessed to do such things?
