basinDay 1, Week 1:  Service (Basin)

Today’s scripture passage:

Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.  After that he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.  John 13:3-5 NIV

Today we will begin the resurrection garden project.  The basin or tray we use for the base is a reminder of the basin Jesus filled with water before he washed his disciples’ feet.  The act of washing feet was performed by a low-ranking servant.  That night, no servant was available and no one else had volunteered for the job.  Jesus modeled selflessness and service through his actions.  This week, we will focus on the idea of service in our Bible study.

Today’s reflection:

How are you serving God in your daily life?  Who can you serve in a new way this week?
