Why I Write

img_4914-copyI have kept a journal since I was 11 years old.  At the age of 16 I heard a calling from God to be a writer when I attended a James Taylor concert.  I put my writing dreams on hold while I raised my babies, but I never stopped filling up journal after journal.  In 2010 I ventured into blogging and began writing out childhood memories.

Writing memoir has been an important part of my healing process, and has inspired me to minister to women who struggle with the same hangups I have.  Hangups like these pop up often in my writing, and I hope to encourage you by sharing how God has helped me through difficulties such as these:

  • perfectionism
  • loneliness
  • depression
  • self-destructive habits
  • emotional abuse
  • codependency
  • passivity
  • toxic relationships
  • marriage trials
  • financial troubles
  • disillusionment

I completed my memoir Heart in a Drawer: My Story as a Child of Divorce in July 2016.

My first book Christmas Peace for Busy Moms launched in October 2016.  My second book Newness of Life launched in January 2017.  The Fruitful Life published in March 2017.

A Daily Glimpse

Every day I spend about two hours blogging, writing, and designing my own material. The rest of the day, I work as a freelance writer. I write professional articles for lawyers, chiropractors, dentists, contractors, counselors, and instructors. You won’t see my name on those posts–I’m a “ghost” who gets paid to write for them!

I have two distinct privileges that also keep me busy. Every week I design graphics for the Grit N Grace Girls podcast. Once a month, I also edit devotions for Proverbs 31 Ministries. Serving behind the scenes in these two ministries is one of my greatest pleasures.

Reading is like breathing for me. I read about two hours every day, and in 2017 I read over 100 books. If you like Christian book reviews, I post them on Tuesdays. You can also follow me on Goodreads.

When I have time, I love to draw and paint. You can see examples of my work in my Gallery. I also love gardening, baking, nature walks and playing my flute.

I’m a proud member of Compel Training and Platform University. I’m also a 2017 She Speaks graduate, and I can’t wait to attend again!
