Writing for five unedited minutes on the Five Minute Friday prompt “Future.”
For the longest time, I had an orphan heart. As a child of divorce, loneliness and turmoil were frequent companions. My present was so painful, I didn’t dare waste energy hoping for a better future.
The verse that inspires my hope:
Look, I am making everything new! Revelation 21:5 NLT
Jesus says this about the new heaven and the new earth, in a glorious future that waits for me.
Hope used to elude me, because hope is future-based. Since I was so tied down to my past, I struggled to focus on a hopeful future.
But God rescued me from my past. He broke the enemy’s strongholds and set me free. He destroyed all the roadblocks, heavy chains, and walls of defense. In his protection and his shelter, I am now free to lean into hope.
Questions for reflection:
How has God rescued you from your past?
How have you been set free to hope for a brighter future?
